365 Podcast #003 You are only human!

Over the last couple of days, I’ve talked about sacrifice and being mindful of the small decisions we make every day. I would love to hear how you’re getting on, please comment on social media or through our website and let me know if you’ve spotted any habits you didn’t realise you had formed or parts of your life you’re aware are having an adverse effect on your ability to achieve your goals.

So, we’ve been talking about being mindful and being more aware of the choices, but I just wanted to touch on something that if left unchecked can sabotage your hard work. It’s easy when we start to look internally at our own behaviour to begin to become overly critical of ourselves. We all make mistakes, me more than most, sometimes we make significant mistakes that have serious repercussions, sometimes we make tiny mistakes without realising. Either way, mistakes are very rarely deliberate or personal. Sometimes we don’t think before we act or say something, sometimes we don’t know what we’re doing, and we don’t know that we don’t know what we’re doing.

The same is true for people who perhaps have done you wrong in the past; maybe they didn’t mean to speak to you the way they did or act the way they did, maybe they weren’t in possession of all the facts, perhaps like all of us they are merely human. Sometimes we behave the way we do because we don’t know any better, we’ve never been taught to respond in any other way than the way we did.

The marvellous thing about life is there is always tomorrow!

You are the incredible person that you are today because of all of the times you felt hurt, anger, pain and regret, the bad times in life help us to be the people we are today as long as we let go of them once they serve their purpose.

I love the quote, whatever with the past has gone, the best is always yet to come, and I think that’s true. What is done is done, and we all need to move on with life or forever live in moments we can never do anything to alter. Things are just things, they are neither good nor bad, they might feel wrong sometimes, but it’s the way we deal with them that is really good or bad.

It’s easy to dwell on things, especially when we start to look at our own patterns of behaviour. Don’t take your eyes off the prize and get distracted by what you can never change. I’m still working on my own time machine, and when I do I will go back in time and write a good few wrongs but in the meantime learn to accept that you are only human, and you make mistakes.

All the shouting, ranting and tears cannot change what has been, so take a deep breath and let go of any frustration or anger you have towards things that are now in the past. Look to today and how you can make today, tomorrow and every day going forward more productive and meaningful than yesterday.
