“If it is to be, it is up to me” what great words to live by!
When I first started on my journey to living a better and happier life, it soon became apparent that the number one reason that I had not achieved more in my life was me!
My past struggles, with my weight, with exercise, with money, with my relationships well with anything, were all down to me! Now it sounds ridiculous to say otherwise but how many times have you blamed someone or something else for something that has or hasn’t happened in your life?
“Oh, I could have been a doctor if I had gone to the right school!”
“I did not get the sale because the other company we are cheaper!”
My personal favourite is “I could lose weight if I only I had more willpower!”.
See excuses are everywhere and more often than not they are self-fulfilling prophecies.
How many times have you heard the word cant today? I know it is a Monday Morning, but I am fairly sure you have heard it at least several times today, and you are probably going to hear it several times more.
“I don’t have the time or the money to travel, I would love to but I just can’t”.
“I would like to go to the gym; I do not have time, I just can’t”.
“I can’t make a decision today.”
Can’t is a strange concept for me, because it represents a belief system rather than a set of facts, although you will tend to find the person saying it will not agree.
Here are three examples:
At one time people, we are told that people could not sail forever into the horizon because the earth was flat and they would fall off! Although some people started to question this idea, it was not until the Earth was circumnavigated by the Portuguese that there was unmistakable proof that the earth was not flat!
Until the mid-fifties no one had run a four-minute mile, it could not be done. Scientists proclaimed that the body would collapse under the pressure or a runners heart might explode inside their chest. The human body was not mean to run that fast…. FACT! Well sadly for those scientists in 1954 Sir Roger Bannister ran the first sub-four-minute mile, and suddenly everything changed. Just 46 days later an Australian by the name of John Landy beat the Bannister’s record. Once Bannister had proven it could be done everyone started doing it!
Finally, one Rosa Parks was told all her life that she could not sit in the seats designated for white people on the bus she rode to and from work ever day. In fact, on the 1st of December 1955, she was arrested for refusing to give up her seat for white passengers because she was told she could not sit there. Well clearly she could, and she did and slowly the world started to change.
Until you change your perception of the truth you see and bring it into alignment with a new set of facts, then you will continue to believe that you cannot have the things you want, that you cannot be a success in life and that you cannot live the life you want to live!
Nothing could be further from the truth!
You can achieve anything you want to once you start taking 100% responsibility for your actions or in some cases inactions. Just as the world is not flat, Sir Roger Bannister could run a sub-four minute mile and just like Rosa Parks did not have to give up her seat if she chose not to.
When you next hear that you cannot do something even if it is coming from within yourself just remind yourself that you can achieve anything, there might be consequences both good and bad, but you can achieve anything!
Have a great day and have a fantastic week!
